The 2016 Daredevil Run Survival Guide #DaredevilRun @Daredevil_Run

Daredevils across Johannesburg are getting ready to be daring and dash through the streets with nothing but the wind at their backs and a purple Speedo to cover their family jewels as they hit the road in the 2016 Hollard Daredevil Run.

“We’re geared up and ready for this year’s Run which aims to raise awareness of male cancers in South Africa,” says Heidi Brauer, Chief Marketing Officer at Hollard. “Hollard is proud to host such a wonderful event, and we’re looking forward to welcoming Johannesburg men of all ages, shapes and sizes as they join in and rally with their fellow South Africans to run cancer out of town.”

Making the most of the day will be easy if Runners take note of the following info:
The Joburg leg of the Hollard Daredevil Run will take place along a 5km route starting at Zoo Lake, and will circle back to the finishing line at Zoo Lake Sports Club.
The race starts at 3pm, in anticipation of rush hour.

Hollard has partnered with Uber to get all runners to and from the Daredevil Run safely and seamlessly! All new users can sign up here with the promotional code: DAREDEVIL2016 and receive a free first ride up to R150. To request your ride, simply download the free application for iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, or visit the mobile site: m.uber.com

If you would rather drive yourself, Hollard’s got you covered with free parking for the duration of the Run – keep an eye out for the Daredevil road signs and marshals, which will lead you to the reserved parking areas organised specially for the heroes in purple – parking your chariot anywhere else may result in towing (which would be a massive party pooper).

All participants will receive a voucher for one week’s free training at Planet Fitness gyms, ensuring you keep Speedo fit post event.

Skin cancer is also a cancer that affects men – so protect yourself and apply sunscreen to all the bits not covered in Daredevil Purple!

While the Run itself is only for men and boys, everyone else is welcome to cheer the Runners on along the scenic and peaceful route.

JMPD and official marshals will be stationed along the route to ensure your safety throughout the Run – they’re the good guys, so please adhere to their instructions at all times.

Invite family and friends to join in celebrating your daring dash – there will be free entertainment for adults and children, along with food and drinks for sale at the finish line.

The highlight of the evening will be an accoustic performance by Watershed, the internationally acclaimed rock band.

The Hollard Daredevil Run, now in its seventh year, aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of prostate and testicular cancer, promoting early detection as a way to save lives. The concept was born in 2009, when the first brave soul accepted a challenge to run through peak traffic wearing nothing but a Speedo and an immense sense of pride.

If you’re still keen to take part, you can register online. R150 gets you in, and Daredevils over the age of 40 qualify for a free, non-invasive, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test (it’s a finger prick test!) redeemable when they collect their run pack at the Hollard campus in Parktown. Run pack collection opens at 12 noon on Wednesday 17 February and closes at 1pm on Friday 19 February 2016.
