Inaugural Sun City SUP Classic takes place 10 to 13 August 2017 @SunCityResortSA

Sun International’s Sun City in the North West Province plays host to the Sun City SUP Classic from 10 to 13 August 2017. A unique event combining inland wave surfing and stand up paddling at the foothills of the Pilanesberg mountains, the Sun City SUP Classic sees athletes of all skill levels competing, including the South African SUP team which will be travelling to Denmark later in August to participant in the SUP World Championships.

The Sun City SUP Classic features a three day SUP surf event under spotlights at the Valley of Waves in the evening and four race courses during the daytime. The courses include a 100 metre Speedster race, the 200 metre Sprint Knockouts, the Around the Island social “fun” Race, and the Waterworld Main race.

The Race Section of the Sun City Sup Classic 2017 is unique in that it caters for the elite SUP racers in South Africa as well as those new to the sport with the weekend warrior option. Newcomers to the sport can book a board, arrive at the venue, join a clinic and get lessons from South Africa’s best SUP paddlers. There is truly no better place to learn how to SUP. Sun International’s Sun City is becoming entrenched as a preferred destination for sporting events from mass swimming and cycling events to golf tournaments and more recently, triathlons. Now SUP is making an entry.

For event organisers and participants, Sun City is an ideal location offering a temperate climate; pristine natural setting and diverse landscapes from bush, to wide open spaces as well as South Africa’s biggest inland waves. Participants and spectators also have access to the resorts array of accommodation and entertainment options. We are excited to be staging the first ever SUP event.
