Sun City delivers Conferencing with a difference @SunCityResortSA

Since it was established in 1979, Sun International’s Sun City in the North West Province has been entrenched as a preferred destination for corporate conferencing. Only an hour and a half away from Pretoria and two from Johannesburg, Sun City combines excellent accommodation, conferencing facilities, restaurants and leisure activities in an idyllic setting.

The resort, which has recently undergone an ambitious R1-billion upgrade, has prudently crafted its facilities and services to meet today’s business travelers. Taking its conferencing and conventions offering to the next level is the focus on providing consolidated conference experiences. Companies not only have access to a range of well-equipped meeting rooms and conference venues, but they can also build in morale-building and leisure activities into their bespoke conference packages. All the senses are catered for, from state of the art technologies and facilities, to sporting and leisure activities.

The choices are diverse; from playing golf on two world class golf courses; thrilling activities such as Drift Trikes, Hovercrafts and a 4×4 quad challenge at Adrenalin Extreme to water sports at Waterworld; gaming at the casino; rejuvenating treatments at the spa; water rides at the Valley of Waves and viewing the big five on vehicle safaris as well as guided bush walks at the nearby Pilanesberg National Park.

New teambuilding experiences have been introduced such as the Amazing Race and the Survivor / Camel Quad Adventure Trophy. Sun City’s Amazing Race is modeled on the popular reality TV show, taking participants on an exciting race against the clock around the resort to solve various challenges. The tasks to be completed at each location can be modeled to include activities such as a quad bikes precision driving challenge, archery hunting challenge, drumming rhythm composing or shooting paint ball guns at moving targets.

The Survivor / Camel Quad Adventure Trophy experience is roughly based on the Survivor TV series and 90’s Camel Trophy Adventures. Participants have to interact to cross an imaginary river, start a fire with very few resources, or follow an elementary compass reading. They could also be required to practice their aim with a few shooting exercises using a pellet gun, use a bow to shoot a 3D target such as an impala or warthog, drive a quad through a precision driving course and get the adrenalin pumping by doing it blindfolded.

Other new experiences that have just been introduced at Sun City, which can be incorporated into conference itineraries, include the bicycle pump track, where participants can ride wild over a challenging closed loop circuit; the Chimp & Zee Rope Adventure Park, which takes people on an aerial adventure around and over the Valley of Waves, and the Cascades Forest of Lights where the lush tropical gardens and waterfalls are transformed into a magnificent landscape of colour.

Nothing can beat the high level of interaction and collaboration that comes with meeting face to face and off site. The opportunities to connect, engage and create that conferences offer certainly promote teamwork, productivity and performance. We offer the opportunity to companies to build bespoke packages which combine any of the entertainment activities available at Sun City. This means that companies have access to awesome morale building activities to complement their conferences all in one place. The experience continues after conference hours, with an array of activities, restaurants and vibrant night life to enjoy.

As part of the upgrade of Sun City, the Soho hotel (previously Sun City Hotel) is the resort’s “always on” party zone with an exclusive dance club, Encore and a retro-styled sports bar, Vibes.

The iconic Entertainment Centre has also been rebuilt. Now called Sun Central, it is an encompassing experiential entertainment and conference hub. Located on the upper level of Sun Central, is the state of the art Sun City Convention Centre. It offers an exceptional variety of banqueting and conference venues combined with entertainment for a large number of delegates. The Sun City Convention Centre boasts a selection of boardrooms, breakaway rooms and fully equipped venues, complemented by Splice, a dedicated slow lounge and Stir, a coffee shop. Every conference room within the Sun City Convention Centre pays tribute to the legend of the Sun King and the Sun Stone discovery, with each room bearing a name of significance. Sun Central is also home to the interactive South African Hall of Fame honouring the country’s most memorable achievers.

Companies have a choice of four quality hotels for accommodating conference delegates. Accommodation options include the three-star Cabanas hotel, four-star Soho hotel, the five-star Cascades hotel as well as the opulent The Palace.

“The Sun City refurbishment gives guests and delegates a variety of new and memorable experiences, with the new and revitalised Sun City poised to claim its position as not only a premier conference destination but one of the finest resorts worldwide” concludes de Lima.
