Septimo Italian Restaurant & Market – Nelson Mandela Square’s latest eatery – has launched a scrumptious breakfast menu, guaranteed to wow those early morning taste buds, as well as an array of mouth-watering sandwiches sure to quell those mid-morning or mid-afternoon hunger pangs.
Sandwiches include owner Paul Lycos’ signature dish from his hometown of Philadelphia in the US – the original Philly Cheesesteak.
“I’ve been dying to launch the Philly Cheesesteak to our customers,” says Lycos. “It’s such an iconic dish where I come from and something I grew up with and which was always on the menu in my parent’s restaurant.”
It features thinly sliced beef short rib (or chicken for those who prefer not to eat red meat), melted mozzarella cheese, sautéed peppers and onions and Napoli sauce all nestled in a warm, fresh house made French bread roll.
“It really is an amazing sandwich and one I hope will become a favourite with our customers,” says Lycos.
Other options on the Septimo Sandwich Menu, which is available from 11am-4pm daily, include:
The Italian – warm homemade ciabatta with mortadella, Parma ham, salami Toscano, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and vinaigrette.
The Parisian – warm homemade ciabatta with country ham, brie, green apple and Dijon mustard.
The Californian – freshly baked ciabatta with grilled chicken breast, cucumber and carrot ribbons, lettuce and a drizzle of vinaigrette.
The Caprese – fresh ciabatta with fior di latte mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil leaf with the option of adding Parma ham or chicken for a nominal sum.
The Meatball – two Italian beef mince meatballs, mozzarella cheese and Napoli sauce on a homemade toasted French roll.
Septimo’s breakfast menu – which is available from 8am-11am daily – is equally appetising, and features:
The Luna Rosa – thick cut Texas toast topped with two poached eggs, Napoli sauce and parmesan shavings.
Bambino Hash – rosemary, potato and Italian beef mince hash topped with two poached eggs, Napoli sauce and parmesan shavings.
The Septimo Omelette – a three egg omelette with mushrooms, Italian beef mince, onions, bell pepper.
Mia Omeletta – three egg omelette with a choice of three of the following: onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, tomato, ham, minced beef or chicken.
Charcuterie Board – a choice of two cold meats and two cheeses from a wide selection available in their deli section, along with a fresh, homemade ciabatta as well as butter and jam.
Also available for those with smaller appetites are fresh Patachou croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes, and a variety of teas and coffees.
Septimo Italian Restaurant & Market is the brainchild of Paul Lycos, a third-generation restaurateur, whose family has owned eateries in both France and the US. Some of the dishes on the menu are those from Lycos’ childhood and which he describes as “Italian American cuisine that you would find in any restaurant in Little Italy in New York or South Street in Philadelphia.”
The restaurant has a compact but interesting wine list with a few varietals available in 250ml and 500ml carafes. There is also a full bar with a range of newly launched signature cocktails.
Septimo is the perfect venue for that festive function – be it an intimate company lunch or dinner or just a group of friends and families wanting to share a fabulous meal together to celebrate the Christmas holidays.
