Moët & Chandon celebrated its global brand ambassador and legendary champion Roger Federer, on the occasion of “The Match in Africa 6”, with an intimate champagne brunch hosted in the gardens of Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town. All profits from this first-ever Federer-Nadal exhibition match in South Africa will be allocated to the Roger Federer Foundation. As the Official Champagne of the event, Moët & Chandon is proud to lend its support to the charitable mission of its global ambassador.
Sporting champions Siya Kolisi, Ryk Neethling, rugby stars Bryan Habana, Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger and celebrities Boity Thulo, Maps Maponyane and Ayanda Thabete were among those who raised a glass of Moët & Chandon in celebration of Roger Federer’s excellence, elegance, and altruistic engagement.
The 6th edition of the “The Match in Africa”, took place for the first time on the African continent, was held at the spectacular 50,000-seat Cape Town Stadium against the breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain. This much-anticipated match between two tennis greats, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, offered South African fans a once-in-a-lifetime sporting experience in their home country. It will also advance an important charitable purpose, as all profits from the event are pledged to benefit the Roger Federer Foundation dedicated to improving education in rural Africa.
“Moët & Chandon is honoured to support Roger Federer in this historic edition of ‘The Match in Africa,’ as a symbol of our shared belief that success is more precious when accompanied by an unwavering generosity,” says Stéphane Baschiera, President and CEO of Moët & Chandon.
“This edition of ‘The Match in Africa’ was a dream come true,” says Roger Federer. “I played in my mother’s home country against my friend and toughest rival, Rafa Nadal. We share not just a love of tennis but also a commitment to empowering people through education. I am proud to receive the support of Moët & Chandon, a House with a long tradition of philanthropy and social responsibility. That support, to me, is the mark of a true champion.”
Moët & Chandon, a champagne House associated with the celebration of success and of life’s most memorable moments for over 275 years, welcomed Roger Federer in 2012 as its global brand ambassador, creating a bold partnership of two icons of eternal style imbued with a pioneering spirit. ABOUT THE ROGER FEDERER FOUNDATION
For more than sixteen years the Roger Federer Foundation has been engaging in charitable programs in Africa and Switzerland giving children a good start in education. Over one million children have benefited from the interventions. The foundation only works with carefully selected local organizations in long-term partnerships and seeks to bring about systemic change and have a sustainable impact. It aims, therefore, to enable and empower the local population to assume responsibility for finding solutions to problems while also determining the content, organization and finances of these solutions. The Foundation is running School Readiness Initiatives around 2,000 primary schools and preschools in Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Switzerland and has invested more than 52 million USD in educational programs since its establishment.
