Rub shoulders with Gru and his Minion at Sun City #NewSunCity @SunCityResortSA

Fans of the outrageous blockbuster franchise Despicable Me are in for an exciting treat at Sun City during the upcoming school holidays. Gru and one of his Minions, Mel, will be venturing to the North West resort on 21, 22 and 23 July 2017 to meet their fans and promote their new movie Despicable Me. They will make grand appearances across the resort.

Sun City looks forward to welcoming fans, young and old, in their droves. Fans will get to meet the famed Despicable Mecharacters and have their photos taken with them. There is no cost to join the fun. South African movie fans have loved these charismatic characters since they made their debut in the first hit animation, Despicable Me.

Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ worldwide blockbuster Despicable Me introduced audiences around the globe to the super villain Gru and his mischievous Minions. After becoming father to orphans Margo, Edith and Agnes, Gru ultimately gave up his life of crime and turned from Super Bad to Super Dad.

In Despicable Me 2 Gru was recruited by top agent Lucy to join the Anti-Villain League (AVL). Gru thought romance was out of his reach until he fell hard for his super spy partner, now wife, Lucy. In June 2017 Gru, Lucy and the girls return for a globe hopping adventure featuring new characters and some big surprises.

There is a new super villain on the scene whose exploits causes Lucy and Gru to lose their jobs. The Minions who are desperate for a life of crime decide to leave Gru and go off in search of a new Big Boss. We also discover Gru has a twin brother in the shape of Dru – fantastically wealthy, charming and sophisticated and with a head of fabulous golden hair.

Despicable Me 3 promises audiences plenty of new story, new characters, new plot twists and Despicable Me  sibling rivalry and all of this delivered with Illumination’s trade mark sweet and subversive style of comedy. Follow Gru and Mel’s journey using #MinionsatSun on Twitter.

Aside from meeting Gru and his Minion, there is an array of exciting activities for children at Sun City. There are now seven thrilling slides to try at the Valley of Waves, with a ride for every comfort level, from an easygoing tubing experience to semi-submerged waterslides that spiral downhill. At Waterworld at the Cabanas lawns, children can enjoy facilities such as supervised workshops at Kamp Kwena, Finders Keepers, Rock Venture Golf, Kazooma Raceway, Long John Silver Bumper Boats, a fully equipped children’s playground, and the Stimela train.
