Spruce up your kitchen with shutters

Did you know that, in your lifetime, you will spend two and a half years cooking? You will also spend over three and a half years eating and more than a year cleaning. With most of this activity occurring in the kitchen, it’s surprising that more focus isn’t put on décor in this much-frequented space.

“When it comes to choosing window treatments for your kitchen, shutters are one of the best ways to go,” says Anthony Mederer, Managing Director of Taylor Blinds and Shutters. “Shutters offer excellent light control which is essential for safely and accurately measuring, chopping, dicing, mincing and slicing. Most importantly, shutters moderate both temperature and airflow which is a necessity in this often humid environment.”

To handle the heat in your kitchen, Mederer suggests installing shutters made from a durable, fire-resistant wood substitute like extruded PVC. “The shutters in our Thermowood® range have been thoroughly tested under stringent humid, hot and dry conditions to ensure longevity. They are impervious to moisture so will not swell when wet and also won’t crack, split or warp.”

Mederer adds that with kitchens being notoriously messy, shutters make cleaning that much easier – simply wipe with a dusting cloth and, if necessary, use a damp sponge to get rid of any spills, splashes and stains.

“In addition to adding an elegant touch to your kitchen’s decor, shutters are considered a fixture once installed, which essentially means that they will add financial value to and enhance your entire property. What’s more, Thermowood® shutters carry a three-year warranty,” he concludes.
