Experience an affordable authentic safari experience with Tented Adventures

Imagine waking up surrounded by the magical views of the untamed South African bush. To the sound of a canvas tent flapping gently in the fresh breeze accompanied by songs of birds calling out to welcome the day. Imagine watching impala feasting on nature’s delights and monkeys playing tag close beside your tent. Although the light is still hazy you are eager to rise – not to leave the comfort of your bed – but to embark on a bush adventure and discover an array of wildlife in their natural settings. You head to the communal lounge and kitchen tent where hot chocolate and rusks await before jumping onto the open game drive vehicle with your ranger at the helm, snug under a blanket and eager for what you may spot as the crimson sun starts to rise over the African plains.

Living in the city, we get carried away in the daily swirl of life. We yearn for solitude, tranquillity and the raw beauty only the Bush can offer. We crave the escape of the modern world. The sound of cicadas in the daily heat, and bats at dusk – the wonders only Africa can offer. The wind gently brushing the leaves of wild thorn trees or wood crackling on an open camp fire. The smells. A sense of nostalgia. A sense of harmony. Connection. A sense of wellbeing. Living in South Africa with our country’s many beautiful destinations, we look to Bush and Safari getaways that offer excitement, perspective and wildlife at its best.

The experience of being authentically in the bush, with accommodation, two meals and two game drives included in an affordable fare, makes Tented Adventures a unique offering, and the reason why more and more locals and tourists alike are falling in love with this getaway experience.

Unlike five-star luxury lodges, where you only really feel like you’re in the wilderness when you open your door and step out of your suite and into the drive vehicle, with Tented Adventures you really do feel all the wondrous elements of being in the bush at all times during your stay. You can snuggle under your duvet and hear the tent flapping in the breeze and the cries of hyena in the distance. The tents all have large windows on the sides as well as a large Serengeti style door with mosquito netting so literally feel like you’re sleeping under the stars. Our accommodation allows you to be in touch with the outside world, refresh your senses and awaken your soul.

Most South Africans have long since been able to afford the heavy price tag of 5 star offerings. Most travellers look for the simplicity yet genuine bush experience, but still with all the creature comforts and necessities.

Tented Adventures’ Pilanesberg Safari Camp, and Kruger Park Pretoriuskop Rest Camp both boast beautiful scenery and are perfectly located within their respective campgrounds. The Pilanesberg location is ideal for a quick bush getaway, only 1 1/5 hours outside of JHB, whilst Kruger is an easy 5 hour drive to one of South Africa’s most prized and sought after destinations, for locals and tourists alike.

The Pilanesberg Tented Safari Camp is situated in the wondrous and Malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park, home to the Big 5.

The Pretoriuskop Camp is located within the Pretoriuskop Rest Camp of the Kruger National Park. Guests can self-drive or fly with Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport located 31.1 miles away. The camp site is accessible through the Numbi Gate entrance into the Kruger National Park.

The Glamping experience that Tented Adventures offers, comprises snug twin-bedded accommodation in sturdy canvas constructed tents. Beds, covered in all the trimmings, are adorned by bedside trays, lamps, electric plug points and shelves for easy storage. Electric Blankets allow for a homely winter experience, while fans in the tents, and netted windows and doors allow cool summer breezes to access. A little stoep outside each tent provides the perfect place for intimate chats with family and friends, those early morning coffees or those late afternoon sundowners. Relaxation is key.

Ablutions are close to the site and house all the necessities. Each camp site only has around 10 tents, making it unique and allowing a comfortable intimate and personalised experience.

Guests will enjoy a camp fire braai dinner catering for all dietary requirements, as well as full breakfast the next morning. Both meals are prepared by the camp guardian who is always on site and guests have the added benefit of staff who see all visitors as part of the family.

The communal lounge offers an easy area to relax, and the kitchen has fridges, a microwave and a kettle always on the boil with complementary tea and coffee.

Both Tented Adventures sites are housed within greater camp sites and offer additional facilities. Swimming pools, play areas, restaurant and bar which are far enough not to spoil the experience, but close enough for comfort and ease.

Included in the stay are the early morning and late afternoon open vehicle game drives with the rangers well equipped and informed to help spot game, as well as educate while taking guests back to the basics of the bush. In-between hours can be spent relaxing, sleeping, enjoying the surroundings and generally indulging in the bush senses.

The Glamping experience doesn’t mean you have to be an experienced camper. You don’t have to pitch your own tent, rough a rainy night or suffer backache from sleeping on the hard ground. You can still enjoy all the benefits of the experience, but partake the attention to detail and comfort.
