UPDATE: Douglas + Hale Presents Overberg Winemakers and Tapas Evening Postponed. Given the current Coronavirus situation in South Africa and President Ramaphosa’s address to the nation yesterday evening, we are putting this event on hold.
Chef James Diack is partnering with some of the best wine producers from the Overberg in the Cape, for a wine and tapas collaboration on 21 March. His Parktown North restaurant, Douglas + Hale will provide a platform for the following winemakers to showcase some of their best wines:
Genevieve: Melissa Nelson
Luddite: Penny and Niels Verburg
Restless River: Craig Wessels
Thorne & Daughters: John Seccombe
Meet the winemaker, taste everything, and then order by the bottle or glass to go with a six-course tapas menu.
Date: Saturday, 21 March 2020
Time: 18h00 onwards
Cost: R275 per head for the tasting and six-course tapas menu.
“James is great to work with, one of the few chefs and restaurant owners in the country who really ‘gets’ wine in all its forms and respects it for the art and cultural significance it represents. Bloke can cook too!”
David Clarke, Ex Animo Wine Co.
Douglas + Hale serves an incredible range of fine wines – by the bottle, but mostly by the glass all in Riedel Glassware. The name pays homage to Chef James Diack’s grandfathers – Douglas Diack and Mathew Hale, and the second names of him and brother Nick. Douglas + Hale is supplied by his family’s farm in the Magaliesburg, Brightside Farm, where James was raised. The farm is run by his mother Janet and provides 95% of the produce served at the restaurant.
Douglas + Hale is located on the corner 4th & 7th Avenue in Parktown North, and bookings are always advisable to avoid disappointment:
