Cell C is title sponsor of the Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo Event

Cell C is once again the title sponsor of the Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo Event, aimed at supporting breast cancer survivors.  This year’s event takes place on Sunday, October 2 at the Inanda Club in Sandton.

The event raises much-needed funds for Reach for Recovery’s ‘Ditto Project’, which benefits women from low-income groups who wish to undergo reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy but don’t have the financial means to do so.

The highlight of the day is the high-energy polo match featuring female only players and guests at this year’s event – themed Pink Circus – can also look forward to surprise entertainment acts, pampering and pop up stores.

“The Cell C Foundation has a strong focus on the empowerment of women in South Africa and this event aligns itself with so many of our objectives. While the event promises to entertain and delight, the real objective of this initiative is to create awareness and raise funds for survivors of breast cancer,” says Suzette van der Merwe, Managing Executive of the Cell C Foundation.  .

Reconstructive surgery is expensive, and often not an option for women who are not on medical aid. Reach for Recovery steps in and provides prostheses (that retail at R1000) to those who cannot afford it for a donation of R50/R75. Reach for Recovery also helps those women (mostly older) who choose not to have invasive reconstructive surgery with silicone implants under the skin. These women have to be professionally fitted so that the silicone breast matches the shape, size and weight of the women’s breasts.

“Reach for Recovery helps women regain some of the self-esteem they’ve been deprived of by breast cancer and we are delighted that we are able to support them in the invaluable work they do with breast cancer survivors,” says van der Merwe.

“This event is a true celebration of all women who have survived this terrible disease,” she adds. “And being able to highlight the exceptional talent of female polo players is just a bonus.”
