Whether it’s for yourself, a loved one, a friend, a child or as a gift, buying a book is always a special occasion. Among the pre-loved books marked down to ridiculous prices this weekend are fiction and non-fiction books, collectable editions, art books, Afrikaans titles and children’s books. There will be something for every taste to suit all pockets.
“Previous book sales held by the Friends of the Johannesburg Public Libraries have always been extremely successful and have attracted large numbers of people,” said Zara Natali, chairperson of the Friends. “There has always been a wonderful vibe at the book sale, with book lovers coming together from all over, finding long sought-after treasures, exchanging ideas and generally enjoying the day.”
She added that the proceeds from the sale would go towards supporting the City of Johannesburg Public Libraries, especially the reading development programmes Battle of the Books, Story Skirmish and Science Scuffle.
City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services Deputy Director Atilla Lourens, who works with reading development programmes, says that the assistance of the Friends of the Library to increase the impact of reading development and information literacy programmes within the city is of immense value.
