Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Championships returns #BOTG #SunCity @SunCityResortSA

In April 2017, Sun City welcomes the return of the prestigious Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Championships. The competition, now in its 27th year, will take place at Sun City’s newly upgraded Sun Central entertainment hub, home to the iconic Sun Arena (Superbowl), over four nail-biting days from 27 to 30 April.

The annual Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Championships has been hosted at Sun City since 1999, with the exception of 2016 when it was held at Sun International’s Carnival City during the upgrade of Sun City’s entertainment centre. Prior to 1999, the competition was hosted at another Sun International venue.

One of South Africa’s largest and most prestigious all style dance competitions, the Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Championships is an internationally-recognised event organised and sanctioned by the South African Body of Dance (SABOD) . Competitors will showcase their talents in a range of freestyle dance techniques including; Hip Hop, Popping, Break dance, Freestyle, Ballroom, Latin American, Slow Dance, Show Dance, Jazz, Modern, Ballet and Disco Dance.

The competition is open to dancers ranging from under 9’s to over 35’s, from beginners to amateur or rising star level to championships level. Individual dancers will have the opportunity to compete for titles and prizes in this year’s competition which is also one of the qualifier events in the World Trial Circuit programme. Dancers can obtain points in order to be a South Africa representative in the International Dance Organisation (IDO) Championships in the style of Show dance, Hip Hop and Disco dance, Jazz, Modern and Ballet.

“The Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Championships is indeed one of the most anticipated annual events at Sun City. In 2015, dancers performed to an audience of over 9 000 people over the course of three days. This year promises yet another audiovisual spectacular as South Africa’s performing artists come together to showcase their talents,” says Raul de Lima, General Manager at Sun City.

Dance competitions will play out on all four days in the Sun Arena (Superbowl), with additional dance styles of the Performing Arts taking place in a second venue, the Warriors Hall. The grand finale, when the winners will be announced is on Saturday, 29 April. Other categories will continue on the Sunday, including Hip Hop and Jazz small groups and formations, as well as the Para Dance section where able and disabled dancers join together in a routine to compete, so they too can go onto compete in a world championship. All dance entry enquiries must be directed to Bev Wood on 083 282 7734 or email bevwood@vodamail.co.za.

The event holds great spectator value, and is one not to be missed by dance fans and supporters.
Tickets must be pre booked via Computicket prior to arriving at Sun City.

Tickets cost R120 per adult and R60 per child under 12. Pensioners and members of Sun International’s MVG programme pay R90.
