Don’t Let Easter End in Tragedy: Drive Like Lives Depend on It (Because They Do)

Easter is one of the most important events on the Christian calendar and yet somehow it sort of fades into the background in comparison to Christmas and possibly some of those less auspicious occasions like Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day seems to get a lot of great publicity but Easter becomes a blur. Sadly, Easter always think of all the road accident stats.
South Africans aren’t the most careful drivers, often overtaking and throwing caution carelessly to the wind. Now I don’t really care how you drive, I don’t really care if you drink and drive, I don’t really care if you’re driving a roadworthy vehicle or not. What I do care about are the innocent lives that you could kill, hurt, maim… murder, for want of a better word.
It amazes me how many people have got little regard for other people on the road and I don’t know what it is about South Africa but it’s almost as though it’s a national sport. So, if not for your own sake or your family’s sake, at least for everybody else on the road and for me. Spare me those gruesome Easter headlines.
However many people were killed in an online collision and you know you always hear the same stories, it’s always the same excuse. The person was driving under the influence of alcohol, the person was driving in an unroadworthy car and more than likely it was a passenger vehicle that had been filled to the brim. I really do think we need to start placing more importance on the value of human life and as I mentioned earlier, if not for your own safety, at least for the sake of everybody else around you.
I often remind myself because I’m not perfect. I know many people think I am perfect but I’d like to quash that rumour. I’m far from perfect but I’d often be driving and I’d be in a hurry or I’d be late or I’d be rushing or I just had to be somewhere earlier than what I actually thought I needed to be and I was always accelerating.
I was always going a little bit faster than what I was legally determined by law. I was going above the speed limit. See I’m trying very hard not to lie and I realised speeding gets you nowhere in a hurry fast.
I might have saved five minutes but I probably got more in speeding fines, more than what I earned in five minutes. So really rather be five minutes late than try to be five minutes early and have to pay a fine for speeding or hurting someone or running over someone or something terrible like that. And I’m especially concerned about Jersey style listeners because let’s face it, listeners like you are very hard to come by and you are very special and you’re very important.
If you are drinking and driving or travelling or going away for the Easter weekend, I do want you to come back in one piece and tuning into JoziStyle!
