Sun International’s Sun City in the North West Province provides the backdrop for award winning Nigerian movie producer Ayo Makun’s (AY) third installment of his hilarious ‘Akpos’ franchise, 10 Days in Sun City. Marking the movie’s release outside West African borders, Sun City also plays host to the South African premiere of 10 Days in Sun City on 10 August 2017.
The premiere will see the movie’s cast and crew including AY, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Adesua Etomi, Tuface Idibia, Gbenro Ajibade, Thenjiiwe Moseley, Amanda Du Pont, Celeste Ntuli returning to Sun City to celebrate its release in South Africa. The movie will be screened across the country at select cinemas from 25 August 2017.
10 Days in Sun City, which trumped global hits such as Wonder Woman and Transformers 5 to claim the number one spot on the Nigeria box office, is on track to surpass AY’s last movie, A Trip to Jamaica which is currently the second highest earning film in Nollywood history.
Speaking on the South African cinematic release of the movie, AY said it is an act of taking the movie home.
“10 Days in Sun City may have been conceived and nurtured in Nigeria but it was birthed in Sun City, South Africa and to me, we are simply doing what is right by taking this beautiful baby home.”
He also thanked Sun International, South Africa Tourism and South Africa Airways for their immense support for the production of the movie.
Sun City’s General Manager Raul de Lima expressed excitement about Sun City providing the set for what promises to be a Nigerian box office record breaker.
“We are delighted to have been part of bringing this movie to fruition by providing the backdrop. It is a source of tremendous pride that Sun City was chosen for the movie’s location. We are also excited to see the local response to 10 Days in Sun City.”
10 Days in Sun City is potpourri of love, drama, passion and culture, combined with generous portions of comedy. The movie is a feature-length comedy drama that sees Akpos on another adventure, this time, to Sun City in South Africa, with his girlfriend Bianca. Bianca wins the queen of Nigeria crown and becomes the face of OTAWI conglomerate which is owned by Nigeria’s richest man, Otunba Ayoola Williams, aka ‘The Old Fox’. Will Akpos give up his love or will Otunba’s wit and charm as the ‘Old Fox’ conquer again like he has done, time and again, in the world of business?
Directed by award winning, South Africa-based Nigerian director, Adze Ugah and written by award winning writer/director Kehinde Ogunlola, the hilarious movie is produced by AY, Darlington Abuda and Kirsty Galliard.10 Days in Sun City is distributed by FilmOne Distribution through their South African partners Times Media Films.
