Fleur du Cap’s signature red blend, Laszlo, has triumphed once again with another Platter 5-star rating from South Africa’s definitive wine guide. Laszlo 2012 is the second vintage to be included in Platter’s venerable 5-star hall of fame, after making the cut in the 2016 Platter’s South African Wine Guide. The earlier 2008 vintage was rated 5-stars in the 2013 guide.
Crafted only in exceptional vintages, this signature blend is a fitting tribute to the late Dr Julius Laszlo, one of the true wine pioneers and innovative Cellarmaster at Die Bergkelder who catapulted South African winemaking into the international league in the 1980s.
Fleur du Cap Laszlo 2012 is a rich, powerful blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Shiraz and is the culmination of meticulous barrel selection and blending trials. The crowning glory of the winemaking team headed by Cellarmaster Wim Truter, this full-bodied red has complex aromas of tobacco, vanilla, ripe prunes, blackcurrants and cherries that meld seamlessly on the palate with integrated oak nuances. It ends in a long, lingering finish with hints of berries and oak spices. A firm tannic backbone ensures great ageing potential with further maturation.
This special release is the epitome of the Fleur du Cap philosophy of regional excellence and extensive selection to create an outstanding blend of the finest barrels achieved in any one vintage. The winemaking team strives to unlock the natural expression inherent in the best grapes from select parcels of vines grown in a diverse range of locations throughout the Western Cape, each selected for their unique combination of soils, climate, aspect and orientation that is best suited to the particular variety.
