With buckets of unwanted American chicken hitting the South African market, you’d be pleased to know that Nandos is strictly supporting South African chicken.
South Africa is obliged to import American chicken because US President Barack Obama ordered us – it’s prerequisite for South Africa’s inclusion in the new African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Considering that local farmers are struggling to get their goods into local markets, and at competitive prices, I don’t think it is justified for us to support foreign markets by importing their products when we should be supporting our own. Local is lekker!
There is more than enough land in South Africa for us to farm our own chickens. We can grow our own chickens organically, sustainably, and deliciously, without being expected to follow orders from the American president.
Well done Nandos for supporting local!
Nandos has taken a strong position against using unwanted American chicken in their outlets. It is highly commendable that an organisation the size of Nandos can throw its support behind local producers – and one that I hope other large corporations will follow.
Supporting local is very important to me so I asked Nandos why supporting local was so important to them. They responded that they are proudly South African because local is lekker and that the American poultry that landed in South Africa will not find its way into your Nando’s meal. This is for the following reasons:
Nando’s is proudly South African. Local is lekker. The American poultry that landed in South Africa will not find its way into your Nando’s meal. This is for the following reasons:
1) At Nando’s, we’re all about the customer experience, which is why we use fresh, whole chickens. American chickens come to South Africa frozen.
2) Our chickens taste really good because they are grilled as fresh as possible. This cannot happen with imported chicken.
The food served at our Nando’s restaurants will continue to be of the quality that Nandos guests have come to know and love. Nando’s will always serve only South African chicken.
I am proudly supporting Nandos because they are proudly supporting South Africa.
Also because Nandos loves Jozistyle and JoziStyle loves Nandos!
