Annatjie Reynolds is the author of the best-selling Karoo Venison now in its 7th edition in both English and Afrikaans. Besides a love of food and wine that is shared by Annatjie Reynolds and Rijk Melck, there is also a strong Karoo family link centred at Doornkuil, a picturesque Karoo jewel. Rijk’s mother, Annetjie Melck, and her niece, Annatjie Reynolds, were both born and brought up at Doornkuil in the warm heart of the Karoo, and both their weddings were hosted at the family farm. Doornkuil has remained in the family for close on 90 years and throughout the years has served as a friendly, open house to family and friends, as it still does today. This breathtaking farm offers exclusive personalised events where art and nature, along with traditional Karoo cuisine and good wine, are the main focus.
Guarded over by ancient oak trees, a visit to Muratie reveals a piece of history where time has largely stood still: a unique and magical environment where visitors can enjoy Muratie’s legendary wines, traditional farm food and great hospitality.
