The much-anticipated Kyalami Motorsport Festival, powered by Cell C, will see motorsport return to Kyalami for the first time since the impressive redesign of the track and modernization of the facilities by new owner, Toby Venter. The Motorsport Festival takes place over three days from Friday 21 October to Sunday 23 October 2016 and promises a spectacular line-up of over 300 high-octane entries – the largest entry in Kyalami’s history.
Motorsport is synonymous with high-speed and cutting edge technology, so it was always going to be a natural fit for Cell C. As the fastest growing and most innovative mobile network operator in South Africa, we are excited to be part of the rebirth of Kyalami and hope to share the excitement and glamour of this adrenaline packed sport with many of our Cell C customers,” said Jose Dos Santos, CEO of Cell C. He adds: “As part of the upgrades at Kyalami, we have also installed state of the art Wireless connectivity to ensure that the management is well equipped with the latest technological advancements required to operate Africa’s premier motorsport, conference and exhibition facility.
The event will also feature the launch of the inaugural Volkswagen Celebrity Challenge which will see eight of South Africa’s A-list celebrities pitting it out against each other in identical Volkswagen Polo 1.2 DSGs. Confirmed entries to date include rugby legend John Smit, Radio DJ and F1 fanatic Sasha Martinengo, Afrikaans music sensation Jack Parow as well as current Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, with further announcements expected later this week.
In 2009 Volkswagen ran a Celebrity Challenge which created huge interest and we felt that, with our returned focus on circuit racing, that this was the right time to take this concept and expand on it by building Polo race cars for both a media and a celebrity race at the Kyalami Motorsport Festival. Having celebrities and the media support this initiative is an added bonus and we were delighted that major sponsors such as Cell C, Engen and Dunlop amongst others showed no hesitation in becoming involved”. said Matt Gennrich General Manager Communications at Volkswagen Group South Africa. “We are hoping that the success of this event will see sponsors wanting to partner with us to run a series in 2017” added Mr Gennrich.
