Melanie Burke: Pilgrim with a Purpose at StreetSmartSA @StreetSmartSA

In South Africa many children live on the streets.

In our beautiful country, this is unacceptable.

In 2005 Melanie Burke was part of the group that founded StreetSmart South Africa, under the leadership of Margi Biggs, to do something positive to alleviate the plight of these children in our cities and towns. StreetSmart SA is a registered Public Benefit and Non-Profit Organisation. It funds education, skills training and programmes that reunite families.

105 fundraising partners now participate in StreetSmart. So far, over R17 million has been raised.

StreetSmart South Africa have 22 selected beneficiaries in 14 areas in South Africa. Their founding patron is Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and the organisation is served by a volunteer board of directors.

Between 17 – 25 June, Melanie will be walking a Camino in Spain to raise funds for StreetSmart SA. She will walk 120kms on a part of the ancient pilgrim route, Camino Francés, from Logroño to Burgos in Northern Spain averaging 20 km’s per day.

While this is a personal pilgrimage, Melanie will also walk in identification with so many children who find themselves marginalized in our communities.

Please donate to this cause. A Donation Pledge Form is available online on www.streetsmartsa.org.za.

All Melanie’s expenses for the trip are will be borne by herself.

Help Melanie to make a difference to vulnerable and street children’s lives.

Thank you for your support.
