After four successful shows, this world-class 17-piece big band, directed by Adam Howard, returns to The Lyric Theatre providing a charming musical journey that celebrates MOVIES in true, classic big band tradition.
Johannesburg Big Band At The Movies will be a concert full of famous movie themes with songs that will instantly take audiences back into the movie theatre. Playing music from golden oldies such as Casablanca and The Sound Of Music to block busters like Rocky, Superman and Star Wars – there is something for everyone.
Joining the big band on vocals will be the uber-talented multi-award winning KB Motsilanyane and instantly recognisable Brandon October who will take audiences down memory lane singing unforgettable movie hits like Beauty and the Beast, Unchained Melody, Son of a Preacher Man, Fame and many more.
Johannesburg Big Band At The Movies will be a night out on the town to remember, transporting the audience through a roller-coaster ride of their favourite movie theme tunes and songs. Johannesburg Big Band At The Movies will be one of the very first performances hosted at Gold Reef City following the completion of their refurbishment and expansion.
This features a six-cinema complex that is themed as a Victorian train station, a bowling alley and fast food court.
An array of family restaurants have also opened and these include Vigour & Verve, a Spur Steak Ranch, Boston BBQ, Calisto’s and The Raj, which gives you the perfect excuse to treat yourself to dinner and a show!

JOHANNESBURG BIG BAND
The Johannesburg Big Band is a collection of the finest jazz and session musicians in South Africa. Formed in 2011 and run by its Musical Director; Adam Howard through his company Howard Music; they have already performed at many functions, including highly successful performances for the 702 Easter Celebration at Nelson Mandela Square in previous years.
The troupe has an ongoing vision to bring back the big band sound to Jozi life and give Johannesburg its first dedicated permanent big band. After four successful shows at The Lyric Theatre namely; Swingin’ Christmas; My Big Band Valentine and My Favourite Swings and Love Swings they are thrilled to be back at this incredible theatre to be part of Johannesburg Big Band At The Movies.
KB MOTSILANYANE (Keabetswe, known as “KB”)
North-West Province born KB Motsilanyane is an instantly recognizable performing artist, a triple threat with an established track record experience in dance, music and acting.
KB has 6 albums to date, which have made her a renowned award-winning South African artist. She is an all-round entertainer that has worked and shared arenas with the best of both local and international artists including Eve, Sibongile Khumalo, Busta Rhymes, Beyoncé, Prime Circle, Ashanti, Dwele and Brandy to name a few. KB has just returned from working with European writers and producers on her 7th studio album, which will be released later in 2015.
Born in Cape Town, a third generation Dutch, Jamaican and German, he was surrounded by a family of singers and it was inevitable that music.
With three solo studio albums under his belt and his appearances on numerous other artist albums and DVD’s singing duets or solos, Brandon is one of South Africa’s most sought after singers.
This multi-talented vocalist is also a songwriter, TV Host, music producer, artist, photographer, lyricist, poet and entrepreneur.
Various TV appearances on shows like Voila, Pasella, Suppersterre2, Strictly Come Dancing (as a vocalist) and currently on KykNet’s series JAM, has made him a household name in all entertainment genres and is one of the most highly respected performers by his peers.
