#DineJoziStyle reviews The Green Garden Cafe

If you’re looking for a wholesome alternative to drive-throughs, malls and  restaurant chains, we’ve discovered a tranquil getaway that is perfect for a spot of garden shopping, al fresco lunches- and is also child friendly.

The Green Garden Café is less than ten minutes from Fourways, tucked in The Purple Tulip Nursery on the corner of Cedar & Haven Roads, Broadacres in the north of Johannesburg. It offers unpretentious family fare that will appeal to all ages; from generous burgers or fish and chips to freshly baked quiche served with salad. The Green Garden Café also offers a more substantial lasagna or Melenzane Parmigiana.

The cheese & cold meat platter comprising brie, emmental, cheddar, camembert, salami, ham, rare roast beef, gherkins and pickled onions served with a baguette is a crowd-pleaser for those who want to nibble and share.
The Green Garden Café is not licenced to serve alcohol but you are welcome to take your own.

The location lends itself to unhurried lunches and leisurely conversations for adults, while kids can expend their energy tackling the the slides, foofie zipline, jungle gym and splash fountain. The restaurant is enclosed, so parents can relax without worrying about their kids breaking free. In addition to formal seating arrangements, The Green Garden Café provides bean bags or hay bales for a more rustic dining experience. Fortunately, the restaurant is housed under a tent if the weather is a scorcher.

The Green Garden Café provides additional entertainment for young and old alike. We were treated to to soulful sounds of Cathy Del Mei, who entertained everyone with her saxophone, while Ryan Sharp the Illusionist kept children (of all ages) entertained. We were also indulged with a generous wine tasting featuring some varietals from Longridge Wine Estate and MAN Family Wines.

Regarding the entertainment, it is not a given that it will be available, so you are advised to check their Facebook page for updates www.facebook.com/GreenGarden1234.

The Green Garden Café offers a relaxed outdoor dining experience where the focus is on family, friends and conversation- after a spot of garden shopping!

Spiced Weasel says that The Green Garden Cafe where you go to escape the city life and sit among the plants for a bit to eat and drink.

Recently opened Green Garden Cafe hosted a delectable wine tasting event with finger food, with live music serenading guests with melodic sounds from the saxophone. A bit of much needed relaxation was had. Wine was beautifully presented and explained with such enthusiasm and showcasing the wines unique elements it was hard not to enjoy it. A thoughtful selection of wine was on show to accompany the weather as Iv learned wines taste different depending on your surrounds.

The venue is set back within the nursery and has ample shade for its guests with the sounds of the running water and sweet smells from the plants just over the fence, it is an ideal place to go have something to drink and catch up with friends or family.

Pleasant non intrusive staff are on hand to ensure your needs are met. Definitely somewhere to go to de-stress and catch up with friends while enjoying nature.

Heather Hook reports that she “Just loved this little nursery and coffee shop that seems to have sprung up overnight in Broadacres.”

Spend a Saturday morning selecting plants for your garden at the Purple Tulip Nursery, with the help of the friendly staff, and then cool off with a beverage and light meal at The Green Garden Café situated on the premises.

The ambiance is chilled, and kids are most welcome. A darling little play area will certainly keep the little ones entertained, there is even a mini zip line installed, while adults rest under Bedouin tents, scattered with hay bales, bean bags and low tables, for a super relaxed afternoon.

Food is home cooked and wholesome. Snack on a yummy cheese platter, lasagna or quiche, whilst sinking your feet in to the lush lawns. The restaurant is not licensed, so bring your own wine or beer along with you. They can also be booked out for functions and run in-house monthly events, keep an eye out for specials or contact them for more info. I will certainly visit again soon.

The Green Garden Café promises to become a popular destination for foodies, families and friends. It’s located within the purple tulip nursery, corner cedar and haven roads Broadacres. All visitors are encouraged to visit their Facebook page for any updates or changes to the program to avoid disappointment.
