For the third consecutive year, Cell C is proud to be the title sponsor of the Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo Event, which takes place at the Inanda Club in Sandton on Saturday, October 28.
This year, the event – which is aimed at supporting breast cancer survivors – will be attended by reigning Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, just days before she leaves to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo Event is a day filled with fashion, glitz, glamour and, of course, polo with luxurious shopping in the garden emporium, with the theme “Pink Garden”. Expect a decadent high tea complemented by the finest champagne. There is a fashion show featuring designs from NN Vintage by the talented Nhlanhla Nciza and music provided by Afropop group, Mafikizolo. Exciting entertainment from Award winning Afropop group Mafikizolo and much more.Exciting entertainment from Award winning Afropop group Mafikizolo and much more.

However, there is a serious message behind the day’s festivities.
The event raises much-needed funds for Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Project, which benefits breast cancer survivors from low-income groups who wish to undergo reconstructive surgery following a mastectomy but don’t have the funds to do so.
Reconstructive surgery is expensive, and often not an option for women not on medical aid. Reach for Recovery provides prostheses to those who cannot afford it for a donation of R50/R75. Reach for Recovery also helps those women (mostly older) who choose not to have invasive reconstructive surgery with silicone implants.
The Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo 2017 is in its third tenure and we, are proud sponsors of such a worthy event in aid of breast cancer survivors.
Suzette van der Merwe | Managing Executive of the Cell C Foundation
“Cell C’s core focus is women empowerment and, an event such as this, is the perfect vehicle to raise awareness and show our support to those women affected by, as well as those victorious in defeating, this disease. We once again look forward to hosting a world-class event in support of a meaningful cause.”
Prior to the polo event, Nel-Peters will visit Sandton City, on Thursday, October 05, to raise awareness of breast cancer. There, she will unveil a giant wire exhibit (in the shape of a bra) which will be located outside Edgars and Jack Friedman in the Protea Court. It is hoped that the sculpture will draw attention to the issues surrounding breast cancer and visitors to the centre will be asked to support the cause by tying a pink ribbon to the work.
Says Nel-Peters: “There can never be enough education on the topic of breast cancer, particularly as many younger women are increasingly being diagnosed with the disease. It is critically important for women, especially young girls, to know how to do a self-examination. It is the first line of defence and early detection is key. I hope people will come out and support us at both Sandton City and the polo.”
