Bistro Michel has been honoured at this week’s American Express Platinum Fine Dining Awards. The 18th edition of these coveted culinary awards presents a definitive list of the country’s 100 exceptional restaurants by American Express. Bistro Michel was one of 28 Johannesburg restaurants honoured – the second successive year it has received this distinction. Pictured are Bistro Michel’s Bruce Burghartswieser and Michel Morand as well as Anna Trapido, one of the judges.
Bistro Michel is owned by well-known restauranteur and Chef Michel Morand, previously of Gatrile’s and Auberge Michel, who opened the restaurant in mid-2015.
The restaurant offers a small but well considered menu with a strong French influence and daily specials. Dishes include starters of classic French onion soup, foie gras, snails and mille-feuille of salmon tartar. For main course, there’s steak tartare, lamb shank, duck confit, seafood gratin or Côte de Boeuf served with classic Béarnaise sauce. Bistro Michel also offers a good election of local and international wines.
